Immunological effects of mistletoe extracts

Herbal preparations can often cause immunological reactions in animals and humans. Research on these reactions can help to explain the mechanism of action of the medicinal plant.

Even if the individual reactions are usually very different, an understanding of the immunological principles of action would improve the planning of the further course of therapy.

The introduction of immunotherapies using immune checkpoint inhibitors shows that the modulation of immune reactions can be therapeutically useful. In this context, the simultaneous or alternating administration of mistletoe extracts is currently under investigation.
